2 is a character in the 2009 animated feature film 9. He is the second stitchpunk made by the scientist. He is ardent, heartfelt, and burning with questions. His fastenings are shoelaces.
He is voiced by Martin Landau.

Personality[]
2 is a kind, brave inventor, willing to teach and help others. He is protective of the others, even protecting the young, inexperienced 9 with his life. He is portrayed as a frail, elderly inventor who can easily construct new gadgets. He built a telescope with 5, whom he also helped fix after he lost an eye. Despite his aging physique, 2 is practically fearless and willingly sacrifices himself to save 9 from the Cat Beast. 2 is very caring towards his friends, most notably 5, 7, and 9, and reminiscent when it comes to the ruined warzone.
Physical Appearance[]
2 is made of burlap, with arms made of a material similar to vinyl. He has shoe leather running down his abdomen, which the bowed lace somewhat resembles a bowtie. He has a metal plate on the back of his head, and his eyes are large and made of brass. Due to his frequent excursions into the wastelands, his body has sustained much wear and tear, and he is now more frail than the other stitchpunks. He has a splint tied to his leg and carries a cane to help him walk. He also wears a candle hat to help light the way ahead of him, with a pane of glass attached (half of a pair of a human's glasses) to help him see. He uses a double-ended spear for offense and defense.
Role in the film[]
2 is ordered to scout by 1. It is not revealed why initially, but there are light implications. 2 is captured by the Cat Beast along with the Talisman after meeting 9, who had the Talisman since he awoke in the Scientist's Lab (whom he protected from also being captured).
Before the Cat Beast can place the Talisman into the Fabrication Machine. 5 and 9 release 2 from his imprisonment and the stitchpunks put up a fight that's ended by 7 arriving and decapitating the Cat Beast. However, when 9 places the talisman into the Machine and activates it, 2 is too late in trying to stop him. He makes a grave mistake by looking at the Machine before letting out a muffled scream as his soul is absorbed by the Tailsman and he drops dead. His death would only be the first of the loss of many stitchpunks, thanks to 9's thoughtlessness.
2's lifeless body is later used by the Seamstress to hypnotize the stitchpunks into an easy capture. Afterwards, his corpse is later sent down into a tunnel on a raft, as a funeral.

- According to the 9 behind the scenes commentary, Shane Acker describes 2 as a "salty old dog".
- The flashing lights emited from 2's eyes when his dead body is attached to the Seamstress are possibly projector flashbulbs fixed inside his head.
