Astrid Deetz is the deuteragonist in the 2024 supernatural comedy film Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. She is the daughter of Lydia Deetz.
She is portrayed by Jenna Ortega.
Background[]
Astrid was born to Lydia and Richard where had a good childhood with her parents and grandparents despite her mother’s psychic abilities and Delia’s eccentric tendencies. She was very close with her father who took her on his travelings to promote climate change.
At some point, her parents’ marriage fell apart and her father died in a biting accident on the Amazon River. Astrid would go on to blame Lydia for their separation and his death, as she believed her mother was lying about seeing ghosts, especially given she wasn’t able to see Richard’s. The two become further estranged when Lydia began dating Rory, whom Astrid despised, to the point Astrid avoided speaking to her mother.

Astrid is similar to her mother Lydia as a teenager. Astrid has a difficult relationship with her mother, due to her being bullied by her classmates at her school, because of her mother's show. Also, she's rebellious, while dealing with the deaths of her father and grandfather.

Role in the film[]
Astrid is an environmentalist, who is dealing with the deaths of her father and her grandfather from an accident, while she doesn't get along with her mother due to her television show and she doesn't believe in ghosts, until she meets Jeremy. During the film, it was revealed that Astrid has inherited her mother's ability to see ghosts.
