Barry Dort is a major antagonist in the second season of Wednesday. He is the new principal of Nevermore Academy and the successor of Larissa Weems.

He is portrayed by Steve Buscemi.

Background[]

Personality[]

Dort initially presents himself as an energetic, outspoken and friendly man who enjoys being the new principal of Nevermore and is preoccupied with the fact that his students can feel relaxed and have fun at school, retaking old Nevermore activities and traditions.

However, behind his friendly behavior Dort is a greedy and dishonest individual who was not above using questionable or outright unethical methods to achieve his goals. One example is his threat to revoke Bianca Barclay's scholarship unless she used her siren abilities to pressure Morticia Addams into contacting her mother, with the intention of securing her as a new donor for Nevermore. This goes to show Dort is not afraid of blackmailing people in order to achieve his goals.

Physical Appearance[]

Powers and abilities[]

  • Pyrokinesis: Dort has the ability to summon and manipulate fire, as shown when he lit a fireplace without getting burned.

Role in the series[]

Backstory[]

At some point, Barry Dort became acquainted with a siren named Gabrielle Barclay. In 2008, he visited a Tiki Bar where Gabrielle worked. He recognized Arnold Hunt, a bartender of the establishment, was a former actor who fell into oblivion. After hearing him vent about the tide of bad luck he had in recent years, Dort revealed his intention to create an organization called "Morning Song", where outcasts can live together safely, separate from normies though it would really be a scam to con people for their money.

After forming a partnership with Arnold, Dort made him date and eventually marry Gabrielle so they could use her in their scam.
