Byron Williams is one of the main characters in the 1996 feature film Mars Attacks!. He is a former boxer, casino employee and recovering addict who is also the ex-husband of Louise Williams and the father of Cedric and Neville.

He is portrayed by the late Jim Brown.

Background[]

He is a former boxing champion and now employed at the Las Vegas casino. He seems famous to a lot of people including Tom Jones, gets along well, with everyone but sees very little of his family.

Role in the film[]

Byron first appears with nuns posing for photos. When he telephones his wife, he asks the manager to have time off to see his relatives, but he refuses. He later witnesses the arrival of the Martians in Nevada and the massacre that follows.

As the Martians attack the whole world, Byron decides to go to Washington to visit his family. Barbara, Art's wife, informs him that she found a jet but the problem is that she would like to go to Lake Tahoe with and him to Washington. They are joined by singer Tom Jones, a lawyer named Joe Weinberg, and Cindy and all leave for the airport. As the group starts the device, Byron distracts the Ambassador and the Martian soldiers by fighting them with his boxing skills. He is then put on the ground hinting that he is dead. However, at the end of the film after the Martians are defeated, he is revealed alive and is last seen running to his apartment building to find his family.
