Cindy is a minor character that appeared in Mars Attacks!. She's a waitress at a Las Vegas casino.

She is portrayed by Janice Rivera.

Background[]

In the novel her full name is Cindy Gomez and worked as a waitress at the Anubis Lounge in the Luxor Hotel and Casino.

Personality[]

Cindy like most of her colleagues was utterly shocked at the news of the arrival of the Martians. Though after the initial shock passed, she followed her establishment's view in capitalizing on the novelty of the aliens' arrival by selling Martian theme drinks and souvenirs. Once seeing the Martian delegation on television, she was aghast at their ugly appearance.

Later on when after the Martian cultural misunderstanding in the Nevada desert, she found herself enjoying the aftermath as she always got huge tips during national disasters, displaying a practical attitude. At first the prospect of war with the Martians did not appear to bother her and she carried on with her job, though she displayed a greedy side as she was known to water drinks to her clientele even during the end of the world.

Later on Cindy received a jolt to reality when the Martians attacked her casino making her panic on the situation, causing her mind to not think properly. Still Cindy was loyal to her friends, and chose to follow her long-time co-worker Byron and refused to leave him behind to deal with the Martians alone until she capitulated to his order to escape.

Physical Appearance[]

A buxom Hispanic woman, Cindy was dressed as an Ancient Egyptian slave girl as part of her job at the casino. Her attire included jewelry braided into her hair with a golden tiara, a push-up bra with tassels, snake arm bracelets, blue arm-length gloves, a long blue loincloth and walked on high heels. She was a beautifully woman, with her most noticeable feature being her large breasts being described as "soft, honey-colored cantaloupes."

Role in the film[]

Cindy is seen serving Art Land, which annoys Barbara his wife who asks him to stop flirting with her. She then watches the arrival of the Martians in the Nevada desert on TV.

Towards the end of the film, she flees the casino with Byron, Barbara, a lawyer named Joe Weinberg and Tom Jones to the airport after the Martians attack Las Vegas. She helps open the garage door and Byron tells her to get on the jet while he occupies the nearby Martians. Tom then takes off and the small group takes refuge in the caves of Tahoe until the Martians are defeated. Cindy is seen coming out of the cave for the last time, carrying a ferret, with Barbara and Tom.

  • In the movie novelization, Cindy upon seeing Byron's beaten body cried, saying "[She] love him!", indicating she either had unreciprocated feelings or just admired him for his sacrifice.
