Jeremy Frazier is the tertiary antagonist in the 2024 horror comedy film Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. He is the ghost of a teen murderer who seduces Astrid Deetz into giving up her life.

He is portrayed by Arthur Conti.

Background[]

Jeremy lived in Winter River with his parents. One day, he murdered both of his parents and tried to hide from the police in his treehouse; he was unsuccessful and fell from the treehouse to his death. Afterwards, Jeremy and his parents returned as ghosts to haunt their home, which became known locally as a "murder house".

Personality[]

At first glance, Jeremy appears to be a quiet and friendly teenager, often seen lingering around his treehouse. However, this demeanor masks his true nature as a cunning and remorseless individual. He is characterized by his manipulative tactics, having lured Astrid Deetz into a trap under the guise of helping her reconnect with her deceased father. His ultimate goal was to swap places with her, allowing him to return to the living world at her expense.

Jeremy's actions reveal a deep-seated psychopathy; he murdered his own parents and attempted to deceive others for personal gain. Despite his manipulative tendencies, he exhibits a superficial charm, sharing interests in literature and music with Astrid to build trust. This blend of charisma and malevolence underscores his role as a complex villain.

Physical Appearance[]

Jeremy is a teenage Caucasian boy of average-height with fair skin, brown hair, and hazel-brown eyes. He generally wears a black and red flannel with a black undershirt, black jeans, and black shoes.

Role in the film[]

Two days before Halloween, twenty-three years later, Jeremy met Astrid Deetz when she crashed her bicycle into his garden, unaware of the fact he was a ghost. Her undiscovered psychic ability allowed her to see him and his parents. They soon developed an attraction, bonding over their shared tastes in literature and music. Jeremy then invited Astrid over to his house on Halloween night to supposedly eat candy and pizza together.

With Jeremy dressed as James Dean and Astrid as Marie Curie on Halloween, Jeremy revealed himself to be a ghost when he levitated during a kiss. He then persuaded Astrid to come to the afterlife to supposedly regain his life and for her to see her dead father. However, the incantation he had her read from Handbook for the Recently Deceased allowed for him to steal Astrid's place in the world of the living.

When Lydia Deetz learned from her realtor that Jeremy was both dead and a murderer, she sped to his house to save her daughter Astrid, where she encountered the bloody ghosts of his parents. However, by the time she had entered his bedroom, the two had entered the underworld through a door in the wall, resulting in her reluctantly summoning Betelgeuse for help.

Once in the underworld, Jeremy revealed his deception and had Astrid taken away to the soul train at the immigration office so their places could be switched. When Lydia and her dead husband Richard managed to save Astrid from the soul train, Jeremy thought the transaction would be complete when his passport was stamped, however Betelgeuse revealed himself to be the immigration officer, who then pulled a lever which sent Jeremy down into hell below.
