Ichabod Crane arrives in town and sees young Masbath saying goodbye to Jonathan as Jonathan prepares to begin his night watch shift.
That night, while standing guard, Jonathan sees how the fog extinguishes the lights of the torches that were placed at the edge of the forest; which he takes as a sign that he is approaching the Hessian. Jonathan prepares his gun and challenges the Hessian to appear, when he does Masbath opens fire but this does not affect the ghost.
Terrified Masbath leaves the safety of his post and runs into the forest but is chased and decapitated by the Headless Horseman.
