Roald Dahl is a British author, novelist, short story writer, poet, fighter pilot, and screenwriter, who wrote many books for children like James and the Giant Peach, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The BFG, Matilda, The Twits, Fantastic Mr. Fox, Danny the Champion of the World, The Magic Finger, The Witches, and among others.

Six years after his death in 1996, the book James and the Giant Peach was adapted into a live-action/stop-motion film directed by Henry Selick, who had previously done The Nightmare Before Christmas. Also, in 1996, the book Matilda was adapted into a film, which was starred and directed by Danny DeVito. Paul Reubens also starred in Matilda as one of the FBI agents.

In 2005, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was adapted the second time (after the 1971 adaptation which starred Gene Wilder and was directed by Mel Stuart) by Tim Burton, who previously produced James and the Giant Peach.

  • Roald Dahl was known to hate Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and the 1990 adaptation of The Witches as they did not stay true to the original book they were based on. Like Dahl, Tim Burton also disliked Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory as well.
