Linda Woolverton's first draft of the screenplay of the film has the White Queen preparing for Alice Upelkuchen instead of Pishalver. The recipe of both of them share some similar ingredients. The recipe for Upelkuchen is:[1]
- Two cups of flour
- One cup of sugar
- A pinch of fungas
- Worm fat
- Tongue of blowfish
- A pinch of thyme
- Three coins from a dead man's pocket
- Two table-spoons of Wishful Thinking
Both recipes ends up with The White Queen spitting into the mixed ingredients.

At the end of the film after Tarrant finds his missing family and the Chronosphere is put back in its proper spot, the family members are released from the ant farm they were imprisoned in where the White Queen gave Tarrant some Upelkuchen which he sprinkled on his family, restoring them back to their normal sizes. After that, Tarrant's family happily reunited with him.

Trivia[]
- The cake's name is comprised of the fictional word "upel" (referring to the cake making one grow taller, or up) and the German word "kuchen" (cake, or generally any food made of dough).
- The Upelkuchen props were created by Joan Spitler and Leigh Grode and their business "Cake Divas" (later renamed to "Joanie & Leigh's Cakes"),[2] who also provided the food for the wedding and tea party scenes. Wanting to be authentic, the bakers looked through various old-fashioned cake recipes and ultimately chose a traditional Victorian recipe for brown sugar molasses cake. The cakes were covered in fondant rather than traditional buttercream icing to prevent them from sweating and melting under the heat of the filming lights. Of all their work for the film, Joan Spitler is most proud of creating the Upelkuchen cakes.[3]
